Liver Center - Ratna B. Ray, PhD.

Ratna B. Ray, PhD.

Dr. Ray is working to understand the mechanism of hepatitis C virus persistence and disease progression in humans. Her laboratory is interested in studying the interaction between hepatitis C virus proteins and host factor(s) in disease progression.

Dr. Ray’s laboratory is also involved in understanding the regulation of cell growth. She has identified a novel gene (MBP-1) that exhibits transcriptional repressor activity, induction of apoptosis and regression of tumor growth. Her laboratory is currently evaluating MBP-1 as a gene therapeutic agent. She has also initiated research on dietary products as chemopreventive agents for cancer.
