Chintalapati Rathna Varma, M.D.

Dr. Varma returned to Saint Louis University in 2015 specializing in live donor liver and kidney transplantation. He performs complex hepatobiliary surgery and pancreas transplants. Dr. Varma was an assistant professor of surgery and the director of the live donor liver transplant program here at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in the Division of Abdominal Transplant from 1997-2004.

Dr. Varma returns to us from the Department of Transplant and Liver Surgery at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania where he was the director of the department. Dr. Varma has held academic appointments at Temple University School of Medicine and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Varma is a graduate of the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India. He then completed his residency and fellowship in multi-organ transplantation at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and is certified in general surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, United Kingdom and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

He is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) and the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA).
